June 11 a, 1998 – We are God’s children, needing training

Many villagers have come here to do farm seva, and Maharaj blesses them with a lovely talk:

Training is needed. Thank God for everything. Guru Gobind Singh said, ‘Sabh Gobind hai.’ He saw with enlightened vision what we cannot see. He saw that God’s Light is running the whole cosmos.

Lakhs of people come and go, but the Guru is only one. Thank Guru Gobind Singh in your homes. Put his large photo there. That is not idol worship; it is a matter of love. Say to Him, ‘We are Your children but we are weak. Make us as You want us to be.’

Do seva at home, too. Do seva in your villages and say these things there. Tell them that Guru Gobind Singh said that God is the same, whether called by Hindu or Muslim names, and ‘May all humankind be recognized as one human race.’ God has given you life, so help others, but not necessarily by giving money. Consider women your sisters, your mother. Then people will speak so well of you.

How can Guru Gobind Singh’s name spread to the whole world, but not as the guru of one community? He emphasized love: “Listen to me, for I will tell you the great Truth: Only those who have deeply loved God have ever realized God.” God is in your love, your faith, your actions, your willingness to serve. Outer symbols of religion have no value if there is no dharma in you. If there is, the whole village can be Khalsa. As Guru Gobind Singh taught, those are Khalsa who renounce criticism and anger, fight on the front line against injustice, defeat the five evils within themselves, burn their karmas, don’t covet things that belong to others, face difficulties bravely, and always help the poor. They love the words of the Gurus and love to always recite Nam and share it with others, but they are not confined within narrow-minded forts.

Love people; do not hate them. Some are smarter, some less so, but we have all come from God. Seeing the Creation, say, ‘You are so great. You made all this for our pleasure. How else could we be supplied in our mother’s womb? You take care of us there and also here.’ God is the Forgiver and takes such good care of us.

God is no theory. Guru Gobind Singh’s actions were practical. From a dead populace, he created warriors. He said that to take sannyas does not mean putting on robes and retreating to the jungle. It means to help the weak.

‘Sikh’ does not mean doing one thing and saying another. You cannot honour the Guru just by talking—only by doing, living by truth, having high character. Then people will ask you where you were trained, and they will want the same.
