Several days ago and today as well, high officials from Punjab government have come to see Maharaj ji. In his strong desire to remind Sikhs of their Gurus’ high mission, he speaks to them about Guru Gobind Singh. On March 4th, he said to a judiciary official,
What is Guru Gobind Singh? If he were just a politician, how would he have made such great sacrifices? Why not knock on that door where so much is to be given? He says to always have faith in that which will handle all your desires.
Now everyone is afraid of dharma. Turban means responsibility; a blue turban means helping the weak. What sacrifices are we making? None. But if we have a little faith in Guru Gobind Singh, his mission will travel to the whole world. When I go to Muslims or Christians, they have such respect for me. It is because I have faith in Guru Gobind Singh. I am nothing—just a person. Guru Gobind Singh’s Light will show us how to live in society, in family.
A turban means respect and responsibility. That is why Guru Gobind Singh initiated it—to keep respectability and character so that religions will become strong. The Guru said that those who tolerate cruelty are as bad as those who do it. With Guru Gobind Singh, there is no high or low. When he prepared amrit, everyone shared from the same bowl.
We should buy a satellite channel in order to show our history, what our Gurus did. People want to hear that. Tickets sold out for a film on Gandhi. So why not do a film on Maharaja Ranjit Singh? [the enlightened ruler of the kingdom of Punjab from 1801 to 1839] If we share these things, the whole world will shake. Guru Gobind Singh is, was, and will be for lakhs of years, both subtle and manifest.
How can people’s faith increase? It was my habit to keep a small photo of Guru Gobind Singh next to my bed. When my leg was hurt, an arm came out of it and healed me. He is everywhere, even in photos. He is running our lives, writing our karma. If he chooses, he can change it. Take his arm and don’t let go. There is no fear in one who follows him.
Then today Maharaj says to more officers from the Punjab government,
Don’t give anyone what you don’t want. We must not supply what the Guru has forbidden, such as liquor. He supplied good things and said don’t use religion for your own purposes, don’t be injust. You are very responsible people. Your turban means that. As when a boy becomes a man, wearing a turban means giving strength to those who have lost heart. After tying a turban, you must not be angry or corrupt, for Guru Gobind Singh totally forbade those.
Kingdom does not mean worldly wealth but wealth in His House. Be careful of what you do here, for in His Kingdom there is greater peace, better everything than here. The One who has given to you can take it back.
There was such a high standard in Guru Gobind Singh’s sangat. What has become of that community? It has become so bad that you don’t dare to sit in samadhi in the gurdwara. Women are given no positions in gurdwaras. Positions should be given to them. All the sacrifices that the Gurus made were not for their one caste or sect or country, but for the downtrodden. Guru Gobind Singh said that his father Guru Teg Bahadur gave up his “sis” [head, when he was voluntarily martyred to protect freedom of religion for Hindus] but not his “sirr” [principles]. Then he smiled. What a miracle!
