May 4, 1998 – Welcome, Guru Gobind Singh Ji

Two days ago, the hukam came to string up lines of yellow flags all around Gobind Sadan with “Welcome” written on them in Punjabi, and sing, “Gobind, Gobind.” Sevadars are busy doing that, and the campus is being transformed both visually and perhaps also spiritually.

Now tonight Maharaj is sitting in his garden and speaking to farmers who have come for his darshan. Concerned about the low crop yields in India this year, he says to them,

It is because of climate change. There will be a great change, so we should change seeds. We are not at all prepared for the change. It will require different clothes, different shoes, and ways of handling snow.

Major Sahib gives a speech, and then Maharaj says,

Guru Gobind Singh set no boundaries. Instead, once he sat in meditation and said “Tuhi, Tuhi” (It’s all You!) 16,000 times. He saw God in everything. He never said to love people because they are Sikhs, or because they are of any caste or creed, but rather because they are people. Guru Gobind Singh’s religion is that of the whole cosmos. He did not criticize any religion. He said, “Temple and the mosque are the same.” Many Names of God are in Jaap Sahib, not because he read the Holy Qur’an but because he had enlightened wisdom. Enlightenment is the same in every religion.

Inside the mind there is fear, greed, and ego. Guru Gobind Singh emphasized that if you control your mind, you can be a good officer or ruler. If you control your mind, you will not hurt anyone.

Vivekananda was asked, “What is sannyas (renunciation)?” He answered, “I means that once you have enlightened wisdom, you give inner strength to the weak. One who does so may be a householder.” When Guru Gobind Singh created the Five Beloveds, he gave them so much inner strength that corruption could end.

Scholars say that Guru Gobind Singh is a prophet for the whole world. Therefore Maharaja Ranjit Singh had gold put on temples and mosques as well as gurdwaras. The Guru’s Light spreads everywhere. He kept merging with God, as His servant. He said, “Who am I? I have brought His hukam and I will say what He says.”

Those who are special are those who are loving. People commit corruption because they have no dharma within them that would stop them, as their inner conscience. Guru Gobind Singh always uplifted the fallen. We see pictures of Jesus holding a lost lamb. Guru Gobind Singh came to do the same.

The first way that Guru Gobind Singh described the Khalsa was that they were those who had renounced anger. Why do we see loss of character in those who now claim to be Khalsa? If a person is very loving, of very high character, we can say that he is a student of Guru Gobind Singh. If he is criticizing other religions, he cannot be considered Guru Gobind Singh’s student. Even if there is a doubt in your mind about some prophet, don’t let it come to your tongue, for Guru Gobind Singh won’t be happy. If you criticize others, it doesn’t matter how much scripture you read or how much you bow. All prophets have brought the same message.

My full faith is that cooling and peace and kindness are coming into the world. This is my firm faith in Guru Gobind Singh.

People of all religions are taking Jaap Sahib.  A Muslim who took it said it really seems that Someone is behind it giving Light.  It is my firm faith that anyone who reads Jaap Sahib will never be second. Guru Gobind Singh and Jaap Sahib are not for one religion. He had no enmity toward any person, community, or country. We are connected with all creatures in Creation.

Now the time has come that His Merciful Gaze will fall on everyone who does Jaap Sahib. It has no boundaries. God is Love, ever with us. Each person who reads Jaap Sahib could write a whole book about his experiences from reading it. Prime Minister Vajpayee put it lovingly to his forehead and his heart. I told Mulayam Singh (former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh) that even bombs would not affect him with Jaap Sahib, and he said it was so. He always keeps it in his pocket. What is a bomb? If Maharaj chooses, a bomb will be nothing.
