May 21, 1994 – Happiness does not lie in money

Many people crowd into the sitting room of the small “Dubai kothi” where Maharaj lives, as he speaks to Michael Weinberg and his daughter Tisha from the United States. Looking very relaxed, happy, beautiful, and often humorous, Maharaj says, in part,

Why is there no enjoyment even when there is wealth? Happiness is not in money—it is in faith and love. People are always worrying, “What will happen?”  Happiness is knowing that God will take care of everything, just as a gardener plants a flower and checks it every day to see if it is okay.

Why do bad things happen? Because we worry. We should work hard and say to God, “Whatever You wish, You do.” God has given you enough, but a person thinks he has to have so much. Don’t be disturbed when your expectations are not met.

If you do not have faith in God, then think of all your weaknesses. Our spirit is inside. It is never weak; it is always alive. Everything comes from our thoughts, including our weaknesses. Our thought can heal our body. For a strong body, a strong mind is necessary. We cannot control this crazy horse of the mind that keeps worrying. The mind must be strengthened. If the mind is loving, thinking of service, then the mind is happy.

Therefore work and take care of your family, but be sure to hold the horse firmly in hand. For this, meditation is essential. Wherever you go, be sure your horse goes with you. All the prophets talked about the need to focus the mind. There is great blessing in listening to such good messages. The mind becomes very clear.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Happiness does not lie in money
